LEYTONSTONE SITE PURCHASE

Alhamulillah, our secondary school has been steadily progressing in the past few years. Along with the positive rate of progress of the school and acknowledging that we could always do more, there have always been considerable demands from parents and members of the surrounding Muslim communities to expand the girls secondary school so that we can accommodate more girls than we presently do.

Alhamdulillah, after many years of searching and struggling, we have recently successfully managed to acquire a suitable site, a former police station, reasonably close to our premises, at a prime location in Leytonstone, on 470, Leytonstone High Road. This building has over 4,500 ft2 of space with an extended rear yard and is in very good structural shape. Alhamdulillah, we have managed to negotiate the price down to £950,000 for the purchase of this site.

After much deliberation and consultation, it has been decided that this site will serve as an extension to our girls school. Every year we have been receiving between 130 and 150 applications for the Year 7 entrance tests, parents being fully aware that we can only offer a maximum of 56 spaces per year. Many parents don’t even apply knowing the remoteness of the chance of their daughter(s) gaining admission.

Our plan is to increase the number of forms per year depending on how much classroom space is achieved on the new site. We are hoping at this stage to have Years 7, 8 and 9 accommodated at the Leytonstone site and the remaining years along with the sixth form at our current site.

Alhamdulillah, we have exchanged contracts on Friday, 11th March and have to complete the purchase by Friday, 13th May, which is less than two months away. The amount that we have to raise towards the completion and related costs is £1 million.

In this respect, we humbly urge you to extend your valuable support through du'a an prayers to the Almighty to grant us success in this venture as well as by way of giving donations, Qardha Hasanah (interest-free loans) etc. You are also very kindly requested to raise awareness of this project amongst your family, friends, colleagues etc. All this will go towards the very beneficial cause of providing education for our daughters in an ideal environment that doesn’t compromise the requirements of their faith and ethos, and at the same time prepare them for a successful future, Inshallah.

AZHAR ACADEMY GIRLS SCHOOL
(ROMFORD ROAD SITE)

Alhamdulillah, the Academy has established a much needed Islamic Secondary Girls School in East London, where within a 10 square mile radius, approximately over 150,000 Muslims are residing. The cost for this project was estimated at around £2.4 million, much of which was raised through Qardha Hasanah (interest-free loans). Alhamdulillah, with the great blessing of Allah (SWT) and generous financial assistance from brothers and sisters, the school started its first academic year in September 2003, and in September 2008, we have started our sixth year with about 280 students. They are educated in the entire national curriculum as well as Arabic - as a language, and also in detailed Islamic theological sciences (Aalimah Course). The school also enjoys facilities such as an ICT Lab and a Science Lab. We are seeking to construct a resource library for our students as well as an Islamic reference library for the general public on the same site, InshaAllah.

Alhamdulillah, with the help of Allah (SWT) support from our students and parents as well as dedication from our staff, we have passed a comprehensive OfSted inspection, and subsequently, have gained a full-registration status with the DfES. Apart from education, the School also caters for the leisure needs of our students by providing swimming lessons and various sports opportunities.

We  have also started a Sixth Form college for girls at the Academy from September 2007, having acquired a building on lease with intent to buy for this purpose across the road from our School premises in August 2007. This initiative was taken at the demand of the parents of these girls who were concerned about their children's further education. However, admissions are open to external students too. Further details and forms can be downloaded from the bottom of this page or from the 'Downloads' page.

We are also, at this moment in time, in preliminary discussion with the University of East London to start undergraduate courses for Muslim girls at our premises. We are very optimistic that this would begin in near future, InshaAllah.

This school project is a unique service for our daughters and future generations. We strongly believe that it is only through education that our children will learn about their Deen, attain high morals and discipline and retain their true identity.

(We have provided below the school prospectus relevant to this current academic year along with the application forms for Year 7 students (students who will start secondary education in September 2009) and for students of the remaining secondary school years.
